Modifications to cellar entrance

Tidying up the cellar entrance.

This is the first installment started in 2005. The final installment was completed in 2011.

2005 - The view the neighbours have had of us over the ten years we have lived in the house hasn't been great. If the weeds have been mown then it looks good (from 25m away). It's time now - perhaps a way of celebrating our 10 years in the house (9500401) to clear up and see how it can be improved.

Status: Started! (2005-07-07)

Doesn't look good! This isn't how it looked when we moved in but it hasn't improved.
I intend to build a wall directly out from the house and then fill in the ground behind it so the level of the grass to the right is equal.
Now it starts - the first cut.
Another angle
Digging done - I just have to work out which bricks to use and how to lay them. The force of the earth may, over the years, force the wall out so I need to do something to keep it upright.

2011 - An upgrade to the plan. To open up the cellar and give access to our cars for changing tyres etc.
Marked out the rough shape of the new driveway. The old steps are still in place at this stage.
Starting the big dig.
It took around 6 loads to remove everything.
The drainage had to be dug a little deeper. Fence post concreted in and fence temporarily in place.
Plastic membrane to prolong the life of the fence, called byggtimmer in Swedish.
Borrowed a tipper truck from work to collect and lay gravel on the new driveway.
Smart looking Scania R.Series - I didn't want to scratch it!
Fiber matting laid down first but I accidentally ripped some up with the rear wheels!
Loads of gravel to rake out.

Almost done - Hard working boys!
Done, now just the fence to finish.
Door is too narrow so this will have to be sorted out.
Removing the old wall.
New door on it's way to be installed.
Finally in - the company did a very good job.
A little work needed to finish the project off.
